Keep order in your downloads folder

If you're not careful, the downloads folder grows over time and becomes messy and big – full of old installers and pdf files that you needed a year ago. Here are a few strategies for staying in control of your downloads folder with File Juggler.

Deleting all old files in the downloads folder is a simple but effective way to keep it from growing wild. Everything you download is placed here by default, and everything you need to keep has a better place. So deleting everything automatically forces you to put things you need to keep in the right spot.

If you have something always want to keep, you can also move certain file types to a specific folder or organize files by keywords in their content.

Delete old files

This rule simply deletes everything from the downloads folder that is created more than 2 weeks ago.

Recycle old files

You can also take the careful route and throw it in the recycle bin, but personally, I just delete. Almost everything you have downloaded can be found again if you really did lose something important.

Keep certain files

Maybe you want to keep all pdf files you have downloaded in a safe spot, so you wont loose any important documents like invoices. This rule will move all pdf files to a Pdf folder, and the next rule will delete everything but pdf files.

Extract downloads automatically

This rule monitors the download folder for compressed files, and when they appear File Juggler will extract them and send the compressed file to recycle bin.

If you're downloading big files you'll appreciate that the file is extracted automatically when the download is complete, and that File Juggler supports multipart rar archives.

If the extraction should fail for some reason File Juggler will not run the next action. So you're guaranteed that only files that are succesfully extracted are recycled. If you download multipart archives, File Juggler will wait until the archive is complete.

You could create another rule to move the extracted files to the right spot.

Organize files by their content

Here are a few examples of how to organize files based on words in their content.
